The great Dr. Jon Ain passed away following a horrific battle with cancer on Wednesday morning. While I never met Jon personally, I have enjoyed my lengthy conversations with him over the last year about life and permit fishing. Jon took a unique interest in our business and me personally – for which I am forever grateful. Jon also made introductions with many of his friends who have since become loyal Palometa Club guests and fishing companions. In addition to being a respected radiologist, BTT board member and director or the March Merkin Tournament in the Keys, Jon was a very special human being that impacting hundreds of lives with his kindness, generosity, and wisdom. With 350+ permit caught on fly, was perhaps the greatest permit angler of our time, and did more for the fish, the habitat, and the people who go fishing for them than anyone.
There is a strong sense of irony in life that so often the people with the largest zeal for living are the ones who leave us before their time.
