Welcome to The Palometa Club
…an exclusive fly fishing lodge located in Punta Allen, Mexico on the northeastern edge of the famed shallow saltwater flats of Ascension Bay. In only eight seasons, the Palometa Club has built a reputation as the perhaps the most respected fishing lodge in the Caribbean. While we have become recognized as the planet’s premier permit fishing program, the flats of Ascension Bay offer anglers consistent opportunities for bonefish, tarpon, snook, barracuda, jack crevalle, and more. We hang our hats on our 1:1 guide to angler ratio, our unique techniques and approach, and our all-star staff of local, professional guides. The Palometa Club is anything but a “fishing motel”, rather a boutique, old school fishing lodge in the purist form. We focus on the aspects of what make a good fishing trip and excellent fishing trip. A destination you will migrate back to year after year.
“If you want to catch a permit on the fly, there is no question that you stand a better chance here than any place I know.” – Lefty Kreh
Ascension Bay is a Diverse Fishery
While our brand is unmistakably focused on the permit fishing program, our guides are more than happy to switch gears to target the multitude of other species available on Ascension Bay. Whether its plinking around the mangroves for tarpon and snook, or enjoying a long wade for bonefish, we encourage our guests to explore other facets that make our fishery so dynamic. Other gamefish such as jack crevalle, sharks, barracuda, triggerfish, and a multitude of other reef species are very much a part of the program. This diversity in species available guarantees a bend in the rod is never too far away on Ascension Bay.
The Palometa Club supports Bonefish Tarpon Trust…
Palometa Club guides and guests have been instrumental in supporting Bonefish Tarpon Trust’s “Project Permit” research on the Yucatan Peninsula. To date we have tagged over 500 permit since the program began in 2011. Our annual Permit Tournament held each spring has raised over $20,000 in donations for BTT’s Jon Ain Memorial Fund. Our tournament is a laid back and super fun competition that is supported by numerous fly fishing industry sponsors including Patagonia, Hatch, Howler Brothers, Winston, Yeti, Drake Magazine, and many more. The 6th annual Permit Tourney is being held again, February 23 – March 2, 2018, and spots are still available!
Guides Make all the Difference
Experienced saltwater anglers know the difference between a great trip and an expensive boat ride can often hinge on who is doing the guiding! Our guides all speak English and are on the water over 300 days a year either guiding gringo fly anglers or fishing the commercial lobster season. Unlike some other lodges in the area that employ seasonal guides from other regions in Mexico, The Palometa Club maintains a stable of the best and local independent contractors from Punta Allen that are, by definition, professional fly fishing guides. They pridefully run their own boats, are serious fly tiers, epic casters, calm instructors, and collectively have decades of experience hosting North American anglers on Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay. Many of our guides have been with us since day one, and are respected as some of the best in the business.
