The Palometa Club Vibes
The Club property is located on the active beach right in the heart of the lobster fishing village of Punta Allen. It is a two story structure originally built in 2005 and constructed of Mexican brick and mortar with indigenous hardwoods and tiles in the local tradition. The lodge was completely renovated in the summer of 2022 with numerous updates. Each room has a private bath two double beds with comfortable pillows and linens, individual air-con control, a ceiling fan, and operable window, and large spaces and storage for clothing and gear.
Unlike many simpler accommodations in the region, the lodge is tastefully decorated and equipped with 24 hour electric power, wireless high speed internet, super cool air conditioning, and effective mosquito control. There are six bedrooms (3 upstairs and 3 downstairs), a fly tying study, library/living room, and a large dining room adjacent to the open kitchen. There are several outdoor patios and a beautiful outdoor bar. The style and culture at the lodge is very refined and professional, but also VERY laid back and charming.
We operate out of a comfortable (recently renovated) six-bedroom lodge located on the picturesque ocean-side beach of the unique lobster fishing village of Punta Allen, Mexico. Anglers can book fully-inclusive, week-long fishing packages (which include transportation from Cancun) in their quest for permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook and more. Non-anglers can enjoy snorkeling, guided eco tours and archeological trips as the Palometa Club is situated within the famed Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a 1.3 million acre World Heritage Site known for its rich marine environment, exotic birds and tropical wildlife, and vast array of Mayan ruins.
Beach Bar & Palapa
“Kaye’s Bar” stocks complimentary margaritas, cold beer, and a full open bar during happy hour. After the day’s fishing it’s cocktail time at the outdoor bar and newly installed palapa where icy margaritas or a ranch water help punctuate the recounting of the day’s adventure. Delicious appetizers such as fresh caught ceviche and empanadas are also a part of happy hour. You can always count on someone for a game or cornhole and the Turtle Box rocking a good playlist in the front yard at the Palometa Club.
Dining at the Palometa Club
The day begins at sunrise with mugs of rich Mexican coffee followed by a traditional hot breakfast of cereal, eggs, bacon, ham, juices, toast and pastries. Hardy box lunches are prepared for the fishing boats and typically include sandwiches, tacos, fruits, desserts, ice water, cold beer and other beverages of your choice. Lunches are taken on the water or under the shade of palms and mangroves during a mid-day break. The evening meal at the Palometa Club is not your traditional heavy and rich “fishing lodge” cuisine. Dinner is served with a combination of family style or plated dinners featuring delicious local Caribbean, Mayan and Mexican dishes, fresh lobster, and locally inspired desserts. Purified water is used for drinking and ice.
Recent Lodge Renovations
All of our recent guests have been blown away by the updates to the facility. The bathrooms, décor, fly shop, high-speed internet, water pressure, and outdoors dining area alone all offer tremendous upgrades. What guests won’t see is a new generator, new water and electric systems, purified ice maker, and much more behind the scenes infrastructure that has also been improved.
While the guides get all the accolades, the heart of the Palometa Club is in the kitchen and lodge staff. Without Rosi, Gloria, Maribelle and Flor we are a ship without a rudder! The girls are some of the most tenured members of the Palometa Club team and do everything they can to ensure guests are well fed and as comfortable as is humanly possible. Carlos (“Calino”) and Amaury too are completely invaluable with behind-the-scenes maintenance, shopping, security, organization, groundskeeping, and so much more. All guests should pat these work horses on the back. They have the longest hours and are completely woven into the fabric of the Palometa Club operation. You will also not find a more reliable human on this planet than our head driver, Manuel Quezada. “Manny” and his team of drivers, Clemente and Ivan, have ensured that all our guests make it to and from the Club safely and efficiently each and every Friday for over ten years.
