Welcome to The Palometa Club
…an exclusive fly fishing lodge located in Punta Allen, Mexico on the northeastern edge of the famed shallow saltwater flats of Ascension Bay. We take pride in offering the most elevated lodge experience and sophisticated fishing program on the Yucatan.
While we have become recognized as one of the planet’s premier permit fishing lodges, the flats of Ascension Bay offer anglers consistent opportunities for bonefish, tarpon, snook, triggerfish, barracuda, jack crevalle, and more. We hang our hats on our 1:1 guide to angler ratio, our unique techniques and approach, and our all-star staff of local, professional guides. The Palometa Club is anything but a “fishing motel," rather a boutique, old school fishing lodge in the purist form. We focus on the aspects of what make a good fishing trip an excellent fishing trip. As hundreds of our repeat guests will attest, the Palometa Club is a destination you will migrate back to year after year.
“If you want to catch a permit on the fly, there is no question that you stand a better chance here than any place I know.” – Lefty Kreh
Palometa Club Quick Hits
Yucatan Peninsula – Mexico
The Palometa Club is located in Punta Allen, Mexico, on the northern shores of Ascension Bay. Guests fly commercially to Cancun (CUN) or Tulum (TQO) and are escorted by ground and water transport to the lodge.
Our one of a kind 2-guide per boat program provides a 1 on 1 guide : angler ratio. Ascension Bay is arguably the world’s most consistent and reliable permit fishery, and Palometa Club guests have landed thousands of permit in its history. The bay and surrounding backcountry also offer year-round opportunity for bonefish, snook, tarpon, jack crevalle, triggerfish, barracuda, several species of reef fish and sharks.
For the 2026 season, we are open January 16 - June 26 and July 10 - December 11, 2026.
Fishing is considered good whenever the lodge is open, however there are idiosyncrasies to each month to consider. March – May are our most popular months with the angling community, but the winter and summer months the last few seasons have actually witnessed better fishing conditions and higher catch rates! You run the risk of a cold front making things interesting during the winter, but as a whole this is an excellent time to fish Ascension Bay. There are VERY FEW other boats around and all species are present. The brief period we are open in summer months can also be fantastic with lighter breezes and far less activity from competing lodges – not to mention the prospects of larger migratory tarpon.
Palometa Club is ideal for folks that enjoy the laid back and familial “mom and pop” atmosphere, and are serious about their fishing. If you are interested in targeting permit, there is no better fishery or guide team out there. If you are hoping for a grand slam kind of experience, Ascension Bay offers the best odds for all species including snook. Accommodations are not the Ritz, but are new, fresh, clean, recently updated, and very well maintained – and the cuisine is absolutely over the top. Non-anglers are welcome guests, however there are not a ton of organized non-angling activities in the sleepy village of Punta Allen.
7 Nights / 6 Days Fishing based on shared room / boat is $5250 in 2026. Shorter packages available on a case by case basis. Additional expenses include airfare to Cancun and recommended tip of $650/week. (See Rates for Details)
Ascension Bay is a Diverse Fishery
While our brand is unmistakably focused on the permit fishing program, our guides are more than happy to switch gears to target the multitude of other species available on Ascension Bay. Whether its poling around the mangroves for tarpon and snook, or enjoying a long wade for bonefish, we encourage our guests to explore other facets that make our fishery so dynamic.
Other gamefish such as jack crevalle, sharks, barracuda, triggerfish, and a multitude of other reef species are very much a part of the program. This diversity in species available in Ascension Bay guarantees a bend in the rod is never too far away.

Our Guiding Philosophy
2 PROFESSIONAL GUIDES PER BOAT – 1 ON 1 GUIDE:ANGLER RATIO
Experienced saltwater anglers know that the difference between a great trip and an expensive boat ride can often hinge on who is doing the guiding! Our guides all speak English and are on the water over 300 days a year either guiding gringo fly anglers or fishing the commercial lobster season.
Unlike some other lodges in the area that employ seasonal guides from other regions in Mexico, The Palometa Club maintains a stable of the best and local independent contractors from Punta Allen that are, by definition, professional fly fishing guides. They pridefully run their own boats, are serious fly tiers, epic casters, calm instructors, and collectively have decades of experience hosting anglers on Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay. Many of our guides have been with us since day one, and are respected as some of the best in the business.
